An idea for a Laura rewrite

The gang talking about their previous experiences with Xana casually and Laura just getting increasingly more concerned these people’s sanity-

Laura: first day This is so cool! :D

Laura: A week in …Jesus Christ- are y’all okay???

lol for sure I've thought about this with William before, since he was originally only with them for less than a day there's no way he could know everything so I like to imagine that everyone keeps casually talking about Lyoko-related stuff he's never heard of before and he's secretly very confused all the time and just can't show it or ask questions because it'll hurt his pride. I was going to draw some little scenes of that years go with questions like "Odd is a cat? I thought he was more of a dog person." "They keep talking about something called Kankrelats, I think that's a monster? But I have no idea what they're like so I'll just nod along." "Who is Franz Hopper? Oh thank you Laura for asking, now I don't have to- nope they're refusing to answer, dammit." I'm not sure if I saved any of the sketches but here's a recreation of one.

But yeah on the serious side, I love the potential of Laura's character in exploring how much the gang have been impacted by their experiences. Kinda like Taelia I guess: they drag a normal girl into a dangerous situation and she gradually realises how messed up it all is, has a very normal reaction to that realisation, and is shunned by the gang for it because they're so used to things being that way.

On the other, more lighthearted (?) hand it could definitely be played for comedy if it leans into the way the show likes to brush off traumatising events as no big deal, like Laura hears "XANA took control of the weather and kept lowering the temperature in an attempt to freeze the city to death. I thought Yumi had died in my arms but she was ok" and she reacts with horror and sympathy like a normal person would, but no, the gang are genuinely unaffected by it because this is a kids' show and we can't traumatise them for real.

it's april fools day again, kokichi's favourite day of the year!! it's early in the morning, and he's yet to pick his first victim… that means no one will be expecting him! even still, he's careful selecting someone, as he checks the dorms for activity. he stumbles upon one, and leans his head to the door. empty. no voice, no page flipping, nothing.

he'd thought about breaking into this person's lab before… he grins. immediately after, he runs off. if he's lucky and he's quick, he might have the perfect excuse to do so. besides screwing with the artifacts in it. he hopes no one sees him running off.

he locks the door once he's broken into shuichi's lab. the supreme leader's humming some song out of tune as he sets up the prank on his first victim around the door. at the top, there's a small tube stuck to the wall. a string is wrapped around the tube's cover, glued on one side. the rest of the short string is wrapped around the door handle inside the room. when the handle is turned, the cover rotates, half ready to come off. but, it only does so when the door opens all the way. it could be an easily avoidable prank… but, shuichi will definitely come in right away to ask what he's doing there, and wonder how he got in, surely? then the cover will pop off as the detective stumbles inside, and he'll find himself covered in purple glitter!!

kokichi's trying to hold back laughter over this childish prank as he settles himself at shuichi's desk. or, well, on the desk actually. his first prank of the day is sure to be a success, and he'll be here to see the results instantly!! ...buuut in the mean time, he does still have an excuse to look into all the papers shuichi's constantly fiddling with...

Today was April Fools Day.... Shuichi was absolutely certain that a certain someone was definitely planning something. For sure he was! The only concern is, was he going to be one of his prank victims.... Oh who he is kidding; he definitely will be! That's why he's being extra cautious, as he starts making his way back to his lab after grabbing himself a can of iced coffee.

His door was locked, still. That's good... his lab was still safe; ....or so he thinks. Because the moment he unlocks and opens his door, he just stands there, baffled when he sees him sitting on his desk! "?! K... Kokichi?! What are y...! How did you get in he-eeeEEEREEE?!"

In the midst of his confusion, it trails off into a startled scream when he suddenly finds himself covered in the purple flutter that rains down on him! "E-Ehhh?!" He looks himself over. It was all over his clothes!!! In his hair, on his hands....and he thankfully didn't open his can of coffee, yet, because glitter got all over that, too!!

".........." After he fully registers the prank he walked into, as he sees that mischievous boy trying to hold back his laughter.... he hangs his head low. "...I-I can't believe you...." More like, he can't believe he quite literally walked right into such an easily avoidable prank....! "Go on. Laugh. I know you want to!! Y-You little...!!!" Oh the others would definitely laugh at and tease him about this if they knew!!

With the embarrassed pout on his face growing, Shuichi promptly makes his way over to Kokichi, after swiping up some excess glitter, places his coffee down on the desk before promptly rubbing some of that glitter into his hair! He wasn't going to be suffering alone!! "There. Now we match. Hmph..."
